Middle-class couple Nader Peyman Moaadi and Simin Leila Hatami plan to emigrate to Europe with their eleven-year-old daughter, Termeh Sarina Farhadi. But when Nader decides to stay behind to care for his Alzheimer's-suffering father, Simin files for divorce and states her intention to leave the country with her daughter. Tensions further escalate when Nader hires housemaid Razieh Sareh Bayat to help him care for his father and an unfortunate accident leads to a court case above and beyond the divorce proceedings...
